Compatibility test

Since there are a lot of different alloys on the market today, not only the casting- and workingproperties are of importance. The most important is the compatibility between metal and ceramic.

A simple way to test that is:

Make a casting of a crown according to the manufacturers instructions.

Put on a thin layer of opaque.

Fire.

Cover the metall with a second layer.

Fire.

Body and incisal material are built up as usual.

Fire.

Place the crown in the furnace and heat it up to 930 C without vacuum for 3 minutes. Then put it in roomtempered water.

If the metal and the ceramic are compatible, most of the opaque should stay firmly on the metal.
